Taxal and Fernilee PFA
A message from the PFA Team
Our Taxal and Fernilee School Parent & Friends Association (PFA) plays an important role in our children's school life.
Our mission is "to help create magical memory making moments for our children and enrich their learnings and wellbeing".
We believe it's important for us to help build a sense of community between our school, families, staff and children, as well as with the wider community of Whaley Bridge and the surrounding area.
We're a registered charity, run purely by volunteers, parents, carers and friends of our school and our main focus is raising much needed funds to support key initiatives and create memorable experiences for our children throughout their time at the school.
Each term the PFA organises various events such as School Discos, Christmas and Summer fairs, Quiz nights or Sponsored Runs and Litter Picks and the money raised goes towards funding specific activities, equipment or projects for our children and school.
This past academic year, 2022 / 23, we have been able to provide our school with more than £9000 to fund various initiatives and resources including:
- New equipment for our Forest School and playground
- First Aid training for the entire school both children and staff
- New books for our school library
- Contribution of £1200 towards school trips
- Annual subscriptions such as Purple Mash and Twinkl to the value of £3200
- Each teacher had £500 to spend on whatever they wanted including a microscope, new interactive whiteboard, games, puzzles or new tech.
- Leavers hoodies for our year six leavers as well as an end of year party.
How to get involved?
We meet together once a month, usually on a Tuesday evening in The Cock Pub in Whaley Bridge to share ideas for fundraising and to organise our different PFA events and initiatives, and of course new members are always welcome.
We know how busy you are and so that's why we try and make it super easy for you to commit to as much or as little as you can or want.
We have a core PFA committee that ensures the smooth running of activities behind the scenes and that we are meeting our requirements as a registered charity run by Vanessa Thorpe and Lucy Cooke.
And then we have a group of amazing volunteers who are on hand to volunteer and help out when they can, selling glow sticks at the School Disco, organising Santa's Grotto at the Christmas Fair or helping out behind the bar at the infamous Quiz Night.
If you'd like to get involved or find out more about our upcoming events then please get in touch by email at taxalpfa@gmail.com or come and find us on Facebook and why not sign up to join our Private PFA Facebook for our wonderful volunteers.
We can't wait to see you there.
