At Taxal and Fernilee CE Primary School, the purpose of our art curriculum is to inspire children’s creativity and equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to flourish in this subject. Our inclusive approach, ensures all children are given the opportunity to progress at the level that suits their ability. Children are encouraged and supported to reflect independently on the quality of their work, enabling the development their own style.
A heavy emphasis is placed upon basic art skills such as observational drawing, colour mixing and jointing techniques. We have found this approach enhances the quality of the children’s finished artwork.
Our children study a range of artists and their works. This enhances the understanding of their own cultural heritage and that of other diverse groups from a range of historical periods. Most importantly, our curriculum is designed to appeal to children so that they develop a lifelong love of art.
